Dear Maintainer,

we found that latest version of cpio is breaking some tests
(sbuild/unshare-qemuwrapper) for some packages in migration (i.e. openssh) for
the next Ubuntu series, due to the following change:

  * Move files to /usr
    Patch by Helmut Grohne <hel...@subdivi.de>
    Closes: #1059756

It seems the path should be refreshed accordingly to the movement to
/usr in the prerm and the postinst too.

I reported the bug 2052295 in Ubuntu [1]. I made a patch for it which was
already applied in Ubuntu. I attach it here for your consideration in case if
helps in Debian too.

Thanks in advance,

Miriam (mirespace)

Your test is running in an unmerged chroot. Such a configuration is
invalid.

Not at all. The path must remain unchanged, because it is API and we do
not break API.

Please rather fix Ubuntu to stop using unmerged chroots.

Wild guess: Ubuntu recently removed the usrmerge package from noble. If
you then use mmdebstrap for creating noble chroots, you end up with
unmerged ones. That's very bad, but it's an infrastructure failure on
the Ubuntu side. I recommend that you urgently revert your change on
Ubuntu as well.

Helmut
