Package: abiword
Version: 3.0.5~dfsg-3.2
For the last 20 years, I’ve always recommended abiword as a very
lightweihgt alternative to libreoffice, perfect for older systems low on
ressource.
I’ve only realized that installing abiword is not possible without also
installing evolution-data-server, which is quite a hard requirement and
a strange one for a small word processor.
libabiword seems to depend of a lot of package which should probably be
optional.

Upstream only provides a single library file for abiword. I am not
going to disable features for everyone just because you don't like
having certain other packages installed on your system.
Maybe you could suggest that upstream move these features into
separate "plugin" files, but I'm not sure that upstream would find it
worth the significant amount of work it would take or whether
ftpmasters would appreciate us splitting the abiword into additional
binary packages that would increase the list of packages for everyone
using Debian (which would very slightly slow the time it takes to
check for updates with apt, but small increases add up).
Thank you,
Jeremy Bícha
