you can find a DEP-14-compliant git repository with the history of the
hostname package at
https://salsa.debian.org/gioele/hostname
My plan is to move this repo into the debian/ namespace in a few weeks,
unless you are against it.
If you prefer to create the repo on salsa.d.o yourself, you can fork it
and then use "Settings" → "General" → "Remove fork relationship".

What is this? Are you trying to highjack the package?

Right, makes an awful lot of send for me to fork your git and in the
process lose all the commit details from the real git archive, not!
A simple search on salsa would have shown you the real archive.
