Package: apt-listbugs
Version: 0.0.95
Severity: minor

Hi.

I get a daily mail fom cron which says:

/etc/cron.daily/apt-listbugs:
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory

After doing an strace of aptcleanup I find:

anhrefn# strace -v -s 60 -f ruby -I/usr/share/apt-listbugs
/usr/share/apt-listbugs/aptcleanup
[...]
9266  execve("/bin/sh", ["sh", "-c", "LANG=en;locale charmap"],
["SHELL=/bin/bash", "TERM=rxvt", "USER=root", "MAIL=/var/mail/root",
"PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin"..., "PWD=/root",
"LANG=C", "PS1=\\h\\$ ", "SHLVL=1", "HOME=/root", "LOGNAME=root",
"_=/usr/bin/strace"]) =

'LANG=en locale charmap' gives the same effect for me.

Even though I have localizations for en_GB* and en_US* installed, LANG=en
does not work. Even though this is interesting, the question remains why
LANG is set to en in this case. Shouldn't it be set to C, which is (as far
as I dimly remember) guaranteed to exist?

Greetings,

AW

This looks fixed in version 2.1.3-1 of ruby-locale (or fixed in another
package in the meantime), but feel free to reopen if it is not the case.
