Package: lists.debian.org
Severity: normal

When attempting to send mail to debian-...@lists.debian.org, I receive a bounce
email with the following error:

host bendel.debian.org [82.195.75.100]
SMTP error from remote mail server after pipelined end of data:
550 5.6.0 improper use of 8-bit data in message header

I run my own email server based on Debian testing with Exim as the MTA. My
configuration is fairly close to the default Exim values.

The error message is not clear about what header has improper 8-bit data. I do
not have problems sending anyone else email and I have checked a number of
testing website that say the headers are all clean.

Does anyone have any idea what header is causing the problem? Is the error a
misconfiguration in the receiving MTA or is there something I have
misconfigured on my side?

I can't find an issue before your bug report, it always help to
provide as much information as possible, like timestamps, timezone or so.

But I found this later:

Sep 13 04:47:00 bendel/bendel postfix/cleanup[1984]: 05D812078B:
reject: mime-error improper use of 8-bit data in message header:
X-Spam-Report: Spam detection software, running on the system
"mail.stoutner.com",? has NOT identifi from
mail.stoutner.com[68.14.213.194]; from=<so...@stoutner.com>
to=<debian-...@lists.debian.org>

So it looks like your sopamscanner rates your own mails and adds
something unescaped.

Yours,
Cord, Debian Listmaster of the day
