Package: krb5-config
Version: 2.6
Severity: wishlist
The exclusive dependency on bind9-host prevents the installation of
knot-host. The package could allow competing implementations
by depending on bind9-host | host. Thank you!

Hi.
This bug report requested that I depend on bind9-host|host.
Currently, there is nothing in Debian that provides host besides
bind9-host at least as far as I can tell. krb5-config is kind of
extensive in what it expects out of /usr/bin/host. In particular, it
wants to be able to do srv lookups not just to look up the IP address
of a host.
I'm not sure other implementations of /usr/bin/host would support this
functionality.
If another implementation of /usr/bin/host (re-enters) Debian I'd be
happy to look at whether the command line options are similar enough
that the dependency can be widened.
I regret that I did not examine this issue in a timely manner sufficient
to widen the dependency back in 2017 when it could have been useful.
