Package: nautilus-cd-burner
Version: 2.14.2-1
Severity: important
Use case:
I want to burn a data DVD on Verbatim DVD+R media. The media supports
upto 16x burn speed. The burner is capable of that as well.
Unfortunately, at 16x, the media cannot be read back by the burner (CRC
error), so I have to use 8x speed. Lower speeds are not recommended as
well (discussion at cdfreaks, cdrlabs).
Error description:
I have inserted an empty media and want to burn at 8x speed. After
selecting the burner, the speed 16x is offered, next to 12x, 24x, 32x,
40x, 48x. The burn program k3b offers 1x, 2x, 4x, 6x which is wrong as
well. But there is a button next to the speed chooser list, titled
"Determine supported writing speeds". After pressing it, the following
speeds are offered: 2.4x, 4x, 8x, 12x, 16x. This is correct. I would
like to see this functionality in nautilus-cd-burner as well, it is
crucial for burning DVDs (it still is an art to burn error free DVDs
unfortunately). The button is not needed, the function should be carried
out automatically every time a new media is inserted, and after boot of the
system if the user has already put in a blank DVD.
