packages, kernel 2.6.5 and libc6 2.3.2.ds1-10
using lprngtool 1.3.2-5
case:
lprng (stable) was working normally. I upgraded to 'testing'.
all printed pages (PS perfectly produced by dvips) only contain a "No spo=
ol
file found." line
this err message comes from '/usr/share/lprngtool/master-filter' (from th=
e
lprngtool package)
this script is used here as a 'filter command' ("if" parameter in the
printcap file)
it uses (line 166...) the envvar CONTROL which is not defined when it run=
s
under the 'testing' version of lprng, but is defined when the stable
(3.8.10-1.2) one invokes it, and then holds a copy of whatever the conten=
t
of the 'cf*' file placed in the spool dir
as a workaround I phased out this script from my printcap (no more 'if'
filtering)
but now my printer (Lexmark e322) is slowed down by a pause after each
printed page, even with a printcap file generated by lprngtool. the
printer is approx two times slower than before. apparently there is no
useless transformation (gs does not run), I did not trace (not enough tim=
e)
but think that the script is slow at recognizing the input format
under lprngtool I tweaked carefully some parameters (sync pagecount
waitend, prefix_z and printer type: 'postscript' or 'lexmark_optra_e312'
... one after the other, w a test after each modification) )
... to no avail!
the stable lprng chain works OK
