I'm also seeing frequent crashes using alsa. For now, I've returned to using
gnome-speech for Orca. It's
stable and espeak in Debian uses alsa for output. Since pulseaudio output will
break espeakup, it's not an option for me.
Yes, I know I could edit files, but why bother when I have a working alsa
solution.
