Could you perhaps produce a trace_level=5 log for imapd? Signal 13 indicates a problem in communicating with the client (SIGPIPE). But without more detailed logs, the is impossible to track down.

After this problem starts occuring, does it happen all the time until a restart? Is the client (horde) on the same machine or network as the imapd? This could also be something very gentoo specific. Afaik, gentoo has it's own idea about optimizing code during compilation, but I could be wrong since I'm just guessing now.

Until recently my dbmail server had been running very smoothly, save some small
bugs along the way that have been corrected along the way in the stable branch.
About 1 week ago I noticed that my imap-server stopped authenticating users. The
problem corrected itself after I restarted the server. However, this problem was
no one-time occurence, and currently it tilts approx 1-2 times/day. The lmtp
daemon seems fine, and mails are delivered fine, even after the imap server has
fallen. After the server stops authenticating users, the following always pops
up in the mail-log (the sniplet in question taken from an attempted horde
login):

Jan 10 06:14:45 [dbmail/imap4d] PerformChildTask(): incoming connection from
[127.0.0.1 (localhost)]
Jan 10 06:14:45 [dbmail/imap4d] COMMAND: [00000000 CAPABILITY]_
Jan 10 06:14:45 [dbmail/imap4d] COMMAND: [00000001 AUTHENTICATE LOGIN]_
Jan 10 06:14:45 [dbmail/imap4d] serverchild.c,active_child_sig_handler: got
signal [13]
Jan 10 06:14:45 [dbmail/imap4d] pool.c,child_unregister: child [8818]
unregistered
Jan 10 06:14:45 [dbmail/imap4d] pool.c,manage_restart_children: child [8818]
exited. Restarting...
Jan 10 06:14:45 [dbmail/imap4d] pool.c,child_register: register child [13013]

Anyone else been experiencing similar problems lately? I have been keeping the
server up-to-date with the stable cvs build (currently 2.0.1). Server specs:
Gentoo, MySQL 4.2.22.
