The very start of the log contains:
*** You are using a perl configured with threading enabled.
Your perl was compiled with gcc (version 4.2.0), okay.
I've not seen a failure like that...but maybe this synopsis will help those
who have.
Possibilities:
* Use (build) a non-threaded Perl
* Don't use an underscore'd version of ExtUtils::MakeMaker
* Update to a more recent Perl (5.12.2, for example)
However, I don't think any of those is a prticularly plausible candidate for
the source of the trouble.
