There's an Opensolaris for the in-kernel CIFS server: As far as I
know, Solaris can act like a Windows server, so Windows client
machines can connect to the Solaris server as if they are connecting
to just another Windows server.

I think you can actually buy Sun products in the Open Storage family
that is based on the project above. (please check the link above as I
am not an expert in this area)
