Well, this is my question: Why is the PostgreSQL package 32 bit? I have here a 64 bit 8 core machine with 64GB's of memory and just found out that the PostgreSQL 8.3 package that can be installed with the packet manager contains 32 bit binanies? As a matter of fact, I guess anything is 32 bit on this system, except maybee the kernel.
