Dear John,

Thank you for forwarding the ex-PSIA officer's comments.
We'll most likely be seeing more press on this issue over the next
few days, but at least my burning "why?" (why did he post the list) has been somewhat
addressed....

This is not a point of logic.
What I meant was that we were discussing the FBI and John Young, but
again (sigh), we didn't know the true story of why the Japanese ex-official posted
this information.
As to why I find this interesting, well, the officer put himself in
a quite perilous situation.
I personally am interested in why he would turn against his
employers to go public with a detailed list of his co-workers. Reese, you seem to have
some familiarity with their culture.
Think about it--this is almost unprecedented in (albeit
stereotypical) Japanese society.
This is the country that invented the word "karoshi": death from
overwork (usu. for one's company).
He has to be absolutely convinced that the PSIA is corrupt to put himself through
this. I, on the other hand, don't have enough data to make a judgement in the case.

I heard that Shoko Asahara recently admitted that he sanctioned the
attack, though you are right: up until a few months ago, there was no *absolute* proof
that Aum's leader knew of or was complicit in the attack.

For those interested, there is an archive of articles re: Aum
Shinrikyo/Aleph here:

This example accurately explains my thoughts. Thank you.
