I heard this week that State Farm Insurance is developing a new Global Positioning satellite (GPS) system to provide a vehicle insurance rate scale depending on when and where you use your vehicle. As I understand it the rates will be cheaper in the daytime than at night. A discount will be applied if you agree to have the system installed in your vehicle(s). My immediate reaction is that State Farm must hoping to determine who is carousing the bars at night or engaging in other risky (For State Farm) behavior. I'd worry given the power of the Insurance lobby, that they just might push down the road to make such a system mandatory. In my home state they've managed to require that all drivers have Insurance. I can already imagine the cottage industry springing up to send false signals to the system...
