I just received my 'Census 2000' letter today, and on the envelope,
printed in big block letters, it reads: YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUIRED BY
LAW. So then I went over to the Cornell Legal Information institute
online and looked it up, and yep, there it is:

I'm not exactly sure why this bothers me, but it does. It seems to
me to be an excellent use for an anonymous online transaction,
however.
