If I on my Windows XP SP III box right click on a folder, "Read-Only" is listed in the folder's properties. Maybe I should have mentioned that I use NTFS. -rwxr-x---+ 1 Administrator Users 57 Mar 28 12:32 Cygwin.bat -rwxr-x---+ 1 Administrator Users 7022 Mar 28 12:32 Cygwin.ico drwxrwx---+ 2 Administrator Users 0 Mar 28 12:32 bin dr-xr-xr-x 1 0 root 0 Jan 1 1970 cygdrive drwxrwx---+ 2 Administrator Users 0 Mar 28 12:31 dev drwxrwx---+ 9 Administrator Users 0 Mar 28 12:32 etc drwxrwxrwx+ 3 Administrator None 0 Mar 28 12:32 home drwxrwx---+ 3 Administrator Users 0 Mar 28 12:27 http%3a%2f%2fftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de%2fpub%2fMirrors%2fsources.redhat.com%2fcygwin%2f drwxrwx---+ 11 Administrator Users 0 Mar 28 12:31 lib drwxrwx---+ 3 Administrator Users 0 Mar 28 12:31 netrel dr-xr-xr-x 1 Administrator None 0 Dec 1 2006 proc drwxrwxrwt+ 3 Administrator Users 0 Mar 28 14:29 tmp drwxrwx---+ 15 Administrator Users 0 Mar 28 12:31 usr drwxrwx---+ 7 Administrator Users 0 Mar 28 12:31 var My initial problem is that cygwin hangs if I start the GNU screen untility. $ ls /tmp/uscreens/ S-Administrator So my thought was that this socket isn't initialized due permission problems. I guess the Windows file attributes aren't the cause of this problem. I have a fresh install and no .screenrc, that might interfere with the starting process...
