Depends on your shell. In Zsh it would be... bindkey '\e[A' history-beginning-search-backward bindkey '\e[B' history-beginning-search-forward and in Bash... "\e[A": history-search-backward "\e[B": history-search-forward Put these in your .zshrc or .inputrc.
