Oh and I forgot to mention that this is not a fair comparison either, because when accessing a windows filesystem over SMB symlinks are not supported and all files are owned by root with permissions 0644 (or 0755 for directories) -- or whatever values you specify in the mount options. I.e. there is no penalty for actually having to read and synthesize proper values for owner,group,mode as they are just made up.
