Before starting on a hunt for gcc-3.3, it may be worth looking into the features of the code you're trying to build to see what makes it incompatible with 3.4 (or the newer, experimental 4.0 series). If you decide that you do want gcc-3.3, Google for "Cygwin time machine", but be aware that the main Cygwin list does not support older versions of packages installed via that channel.
