Can someone please help me with this? I've searched the docs but its
like finding a needle in a haystack. I got a new PC recently and need to
reinstall cygwin (unless you can tell me an safe way of copying
everything I had before to the new one).
I made a list of all packages I had previously and installed them all on
the new PC. Then I noticed that it created my user home directory in
"c:\documents and settings\userid". I wanted it in "c:\cygwin\home"
where it was before. What happened and how can I move it. I do NOT want
it cluttering up "documents and settings".
Read the man page for 'mkpasswd' and apply the appropriate switch when
you recreate the '/etc/passwd' file (-h if I'm not mistaken, though
I may be remembering wrong). Alternatively, if you know what you're
doing, just edit the '/etc/passwd' file and change your home directory
to whatever you like. If you must, you can also set HOME in your
Windows environment to the directory you want. When Cygwin starts,
it will use this value to override all others set.
