Thanks chris, that located it. it came out in /usr/sbin so I added that to the path.

I'd suggest using the "cygcheck -l proftpd" to find the location of the proftpd binary.
I'd like to install wu-ftpd and vsftpd, but I don't see them listed. I read that there is a cygwin port of vsftpd though. so 2 issues there. proftpd ot instaling. And how do I install vsftpd?
