Also, if you plan to run programs from the Windows command line rather than from Cygwin bash, you'll need to add c:\cygwin\bin (or whatever the /bin directory resolves to) to the system PATH. BTW, to avoid the DOS window, use the "run" utility from the X-startup-scripts package, or use "cygstart" from the cygutils package.
