sorry for answering by myself, the problem is solved without using cat but instead using tar to unpack tar archive directly from /dev/st0

I am setting block size mt -f /dev/st0 setblk 10240 and then try to read from the device with cat cat /dev/nst0 > file.tar and I get a message like cat: /dev/nst0: Bad address
I have mt V2.3, Corinna Vinschen, Apr 19 2004 latest cygwin
Any ideas what is wrong with it ?
