This is a quoting bug in line 5 of the /usr/share/mc/bin/mc-wrapper.sh script, which says: MC_PWD="`cat $MC_PWD_FILE`" This should be MC_PWD="`cat "$MC_PWD_FILE"`" MC maintainer, please note. In the meantime, you can fix it in your local copy.
