I remember that I had to change the user and/or group id for my account to circumvent a bug in cygwin - this was shortly after installation, i.e. about half a year ago. This was following a suggestion of a contributor of this mailing list, but I don't remember anymore wheather I had to do this by manually editing /etc/passwd or by some other means.
