using powershell was simply a demonstration of .NET behavior. I'm sure someone can/has written a 5 line dotNet compiled binary to do the same thing. There may even be a mechanism to call dotNet class methods from Cygwin via some kind of intermediary. I'm not familiar with all that, so resorted to the lowest rung to demo functionality.
