I am trying to compile openssl. When I run make and make test, I get trivial

My friends tells me that this is because cygwin doesn't deal with the
symlinks present in C header files. How do I remedy this?

In my experience this won't happen if you are using tools
built to run in the cygwin environment (if that is indeed
the problem). So, which C compiler are you running?
