Easy fix:
$ strace -o vim.trace vim-nox -c q /etc/hosts
That causes it to go through the full motions of loading up /etc/hosts,
then automatically quit, all while strace watches.
It doesn't segv here, by the way. Up-to-date Cygwin install, Vista 64.
