Thank you, those of you who have pointed out that _exit() is not supposed to be doing what I think it is. I will therefore assume this is either not a bug in my program or otherwise that it is complex enough that I can't figure it out myself. In either case, I'll be following the bug reporting guidelines and will post a small test case program along with it that demonstrates the problem either tonight or tomorrow, depending on how difficult it is for me to complete properly.
