As I understand it, by the time you're in a Cygwin bash shell, the environment variable has been changed by the Cygwin DLL, and the original Windows value is gone. But I believe launching a Windows process will restore it, so you can try this: cmd /c "echo %PATH%". Not at my Cygwin box to test, though. -- Mark J.
