The Cygwin font directory links to the Windows system fonts anyway,
could you perhaps use one of them for Emoji instead (at least unless no
other suiteable free font is installed)?
Mintty uses .png graphic files for emoji display, not a font. I did not
find any information how to use a font for emoji display in GDI or
Uniscribe and anyway I don't think that method would provide emoji
joining sequences which mintty supports.
