Hi Everyone! I have asked Julian Mautner, one of our SoC students this summer, to submit a detailed design on his project to this list, in order that he might get some feedback on whether it will work in our existing code infrastructure the way he currently seeks to implement it. In the interest of getting everyone on the same page, I wanted to introduce some of the ideas behind his project before he posts to the list.
So, Julian's project is in the area of real-time cloud simulation and rendering. Most of the background knowledge for this project comes from Harris' dissertation, available at: http://www.markmark.net/dissertation/harrisDissertation.pdf. The idea Julian plans to use is a realistic, physically-based simulation to render the mesh clouds themselves, as well as an advanced lighting algorithm to simulate multiple scattering in the clouds to give them a realistic, volumetric appearance. Julian will discuss his design considerations, as well as anything I've left out, over the course of the next few days. ~Scott ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace.
