Brian,
crystalspace doesn't need MFC. I've rolled back to VC++ 2005 express
for now and everything is building fine.

No it doesn't. It works perfectly fine for CS, both the 2005
and 2008
Express versions - for 2008 at least the projects in the CS
trunk. The
only mystery is why the VC 2005 projects, imported into VC 2008,
experience build errors.
