That's not really 'crypto' related but pretty cool. I only use password-less ssh, and /etc/shadow is -rw------- 1 root root. However, of course passwd has to be -rws--x--x 1 root root. I've looked at the ~200 (iirc) lines of code there and don't see how you could do anything evil there, but just because I didn't see it... So, maybe I do have a place for this :)
