Notice to the Community with respect to changes to ORSC Root Services. >As of this Friday June 1st, 2001 the legacy root servers identified as >205.189.73.10 and 205.189.73.102 are back up temporarily for testing >purposes only. These roots were activated by Diebold Incorporated and >used by the ORSC without permission from Planet Communications & Computing >Facility. > >At this time we are logging dns queries to both IP addresses. We estimate >the traffic load on both roots to be in excess of 100 dns transactions per >second. Our logs will be made available later in the day for verification >by Diebold Incorporated and interested members of the alt.root community. > >Due to technical limitations on our end we no longer serve the ORSC >root. Both root servers are using PACROOT for resolution. > >End users of the current SETDNS program are affected including all servers >which are pointing to these legacy addresses. Users and servers using >these roots will not notice any changes. However servers using the roots >for axfr will notice some anomolies depending on which serial number is >greater. At this time axfr records for PACROOT (serial 2001060213) are >being loaded and replace ORSC (serial 2001060109) zone files. > >We will be contacting the client with our test result in the near future >and we will have a decision on the future of these roots this month and >will advise the community accordingly. > >regards >Joe Baptista >on behalf of Planet Communications & Computing Facility The dot.GOD Registry, Limited The Executive Plaza, Suite 908 150 West 51st Street Manhattan island, NYC 10019
