Looks like I had a Evolution but when they went sqllite. I ran back to 
2.22.1 and it works well with IMAP. After that succes I scrapped my pinerc 
and started over. This time, PINE was also able to create folders. i 
suspect that I had the start folder not set to INBOX as I should have.

I never would have suspected a working mail client to be broken in just 
they way I was testing though, thanks for the redirection! :)
