Can you try to reduce the antialiasing modifiying in /etc/xpdfrc
the entry:
t1libControl high
freetypeControl high
to
t1libControl low
freetypeControl low
or
t1libControl plain
freetypeControl none
and to uncoment #displayFontX entries and comment displayFontT1 enttries.
To me seems "a feature".

When using "Fit in page" or "Fit in width", the document is resized and it seems
good. But if ever you resize te window, xpdf redraws the whole page a lot of
times which gives an blinking picture and sometimes during a while.
