I have same problem with xsane ( from Cooker ) - newly installed machine :

When I have the scanner on the icon appears in kde desktop and if I click on I
can select the device between tv or scanner (tv is not an usb device!!!).
But... when the scanner is off the icon still appears (XSane /dev/usb/scanner0)
and if I click on it xsane start with the tv; I can scan images of the tv!!
