Sorry, I was slightly erroneous, it was not reiserfs, but ext3, don't know why it was 
not 
detected as such though.... 
obviously I got garbage when I tried to mount it as reiserfs ;-) 
 
Anyway, I've now erased this installation of mandrake 9.1, since I made some mistakes 
with the partition sizes and had a lot more problems when trying a custom kernel. 
Better to start all over. But not now, so this cannot be investigated further by me 
(at 
least not anytime soon.

On my laptop I have mandrake 9.0 and I also installed mandrake 9.1b3 on a small space 
on the disk. I was unable to mount my 9.0 root partition as reiserfs (which it really 
is). The 
autodetect of mount found a vfat partition (so did file -s /dev/hda1). 
 
BTW, finding and including in lilo of an existing linux installation would be nice!
