Since my upgrade from Mandrake 8.2 to 9.0 I haven't been able to use my CD
burner any more. In 9.1b3 it's no-go as well. But I don't want to point at
Mandrake as the guilty party just yet, it might also be that my burner is
broken or something else, I just don't know where to look.. :-(
My burner is a Philips CDD 3600 (2-speed SCSI model). I've tried several
front ends but cdrecord keeps returning the same kind of error when
starting to write:

On a hunch, I unloaded the ide-scsi module and this made a tiny
difference, the resulting error message is almost identical but also
mentions the "Writing time":

It looks like I have to do something about the "invalid field in
parameter list" sense code warning. The cdrecord documentation provides me
no clues on how to do this.
One more interesting tidbit from cdrecord -scanbus (the warning line),
although I can make no sense of it:
