Yes! This would be a huge thing for Mandrake. In a discussion on IRC it was concluded that ALSA's default volume settings are probably some sort of strange religious ritual, so it'd be awesome if Mandrake fixed them. Danny's solution is ideal for the long-term: a set of sensible defaults for each driver which are applied automatically. For the short term, installation should *at least* unmute, say, master and PCM volume and set them to 60 or so (if it doesn't already - it's a long time since I used DrakX). -- adamw
