Much work have been done recently on the language stuff. I've just tested with
CVS code and I get in my ~/.i18n the following, which should be correct:

Next build of "drakxtools" should contain that fix, please reopen the bug if
it's not fixed for you.

I did a fresh install of cooker tonight and set up a new user account.
After the installation, I logged in as the new user and ran
/usr/sbin/localedrake and changed the locale to Japanese.
The following .i18n file was created:
LC_CTYPE=ja_JP
LANGUAGE=ja_JP.ujis:ja
LC_MONETARY=ja_JP
LC_COLLATE=ja_JP
LC_NUMERIC=ja_JP
LC_TIME=ja_JP
LANG=ja_JP
LC_MESSAGES=ja_JP
However, it did not set the XIM, XMODIFIERS and XIM_PROGRAM variables.
