Did you try the driver for Radeon 8500? They use the same graphics chip (R200). Using XFree86 4.2.0+ should give you good 2D accel, but no 3D accel. > RH 7.3 download + files from ATI supports FireGL but ATIs files are RH > kernels only..... You are wrong here about driver not supporting other distros. If you have kernel sources and headers installed then ATI driver works just fine. It uses the sources to compile the driver modules. I've been using FireGL driver on Mandrake 8.2 for my Radeon 8500 card. Now ATI relesed the driver for Radeon 8500 and it works just fine from Mandrake 9.0 Beta to 9.0 RC1. 3D and 2D accel. work very good. > So today SuSE looks best choice for a FireGL8x00 card. If you prefer SuSE then yes. Otherwise use the distro you prefer and try a little bit harder when installing drivers and getting this excellent hardware to work. But I also think that it would be really nice if Mandrake had some tool (probably just integrated into existing videocrad selection tool) that would give you the choice to use drivers from ATI if you have them downloaded and installed. -- Live long and prosper!
