Dear All, I have just downloaded and installed beta 4 and here are things that I found wanting or are on my wish list. I did an expert install, partitioning type - server, installed KDE, Gnome, Open office, webmin, samba, tightvnc, gcc etc.
Installing. Default for partition type is ext2, how about ext3 instead? User's ID icons are now photos instead of cartoons. Bring back the cartoons - they look better! Network config wizard - I chose auto detect but was then asked to choose my network card. After pressing cancel, my card was then identified and configured. Print queue choices - LPR has disappeared yet the package is on the cd's LCD display not auto detected. Video card - why ask for confirmation - 8.2 didn't do this! Updates downloaded and installed okay. Post install No splash screen except for main boot options Package install works intermittently. Package install and uninstall - why split them up. People want to sometimes do both at the same time. Drakeverything fails with segmentation faults except for drakbug.... Drakbug - why use mozilla? If people use konqueror, then will it still work? No USB devices found (i have epson perfection 1650 scanner and cd-rw, both work under 8.2). usbcore and usb_storage modules both loaded. Software update failed to even start. Open office worked well. KDE Nice icons and background! Sound mixer missing - lost? No sound until desktop settings wizard is run Xine dies after initial splash screen Gnome Nice to see the return of gnome-toaster! Control centre is missing. With 8.2 the basic control centre was there and for any more, control-centre-extras had to be installed. No sound even though sound servers where initialized. Sound card modules are loaded okay Gnome / MDK menus - why not merge them properly. It just looks messy this way Three attempts to logout!!!! If anybody wants more info, email me and tell me precisely what you need to know.
