A couple of points I thinks have been misunderstood

I'll try and find that and run it, but its been pretty trouble free

The slave on this machine is the cdrom, I suspect something is writing
to the bios, or trying to

there was a core dump each time iptables was started, I did see someone
else on the list have the same prob.

I have had the generic kernel 2.4.18 running , but the 3 D acceleration
is slower than the mdk kernel..
The work you guys do IS appreciated, MDK is by far the best distro.
