According to the info on XFree.org SiS 530 is only 24 bpp. Not that it is a really
trustworthy source of SiS information but...
If it is as the "fantastic" 6326 it will also use only 24bpp for depth 24, if so use
startx -- -depth 24 -pixmap 24
