/etc/sysconfig/desktop Does not exist and is not documented.
It is possible to specify with DM to use.
DISPLAYMANAGER=GDM
thouse parameters are used in
/etc/X11/prefdm and /etc/X11/Xsession.
It will be even better if you will move /etc/sysconfig/* to separate package.
