OVERVIEW: CD install of 9.2 download on an SCE mainboard with 450 K6-2 freezes
during first stage of install. Same results using Beta2 & RC1 CDs.
TO REPRODUCE: Attempt to install 9.2 from CDs on the K6-2 system. Tried
alternate images using CD2 with same result. Tried passing 'noapic' and/or
'nopentium' and/or 'vga=0' using 'Expert' and 'Linux' and 'Text' options as well
as the default. The CDs are good.
BUILD & PLATFORM: DrakeX version is 1847. Box is home-built and is used as a
home server. Was running Mandrake 8.2 (and previously MNF as a firewall and
gateway). SCE A586B AT main board, 450 K6-2 CPU, 256M of PC133 RAM running at
100 meg FSB speed. Riva TNT video card with 16M RAM and Nvidia Vanta BIOS.
Generic DVD-ROM + three HD: hda 30G WD, hdb 60G Segate, hdd 4G Quantum BigFoot.
RAM tested as good.
OTHER PLATFORMS: No similar problem installing on a slot-A Athlon system using
the same disks.
