Is there a cylinder offset selection in DiskDrake? I can't recall seeing one
but then again I wasn't looking for one either. I know that on the RH6.2
install it asks where you want to install SILO - in the MBR or on the first
sector of the boot disk were the choices I think. Would I be correct assuming
that this is related? I belive I choose MBR for RH6.2 but it still worked.

Another concern for booting may be the eprom setup. When I installed RH6.2 it
put a "linux" setting in my eprom. Luckily I wrote it down during the install:
Prom alias
        linux /sbus/SUNW,fas/sd@0,0:a

Would this cause a problem if it was still in the eprom when I installed
Mandrake, or does Mandrake deal with it? For that matter, does Mandrake
program the eprom at all? I can always reset the eprom to factory defaults
before I install Mandrake if necessary, but if that is the case then a person
would have to know to do so beforehand and it should be included in the
installer to make the installer complete. One would hate to do a full install
only to realize that you forgot to reset the eprom as the first step and so all
of your time was wasted.

Perhaps on the same screen where you configure SILO you could also have eprom
setting selections and so on.

Another problem that I recall having was that during one of the installations
that I tried (unfortunately I can't remember which type anymore) involved X
configuration. Things installed off of the first CD, then off of the second CD,
but when the installer went to load the X server the second CD was still in the
drive and it complained that it couldn't find the file. I think the install
exited at that point but I'm not sure. After that I'm pretty sure that I left
the second CD unchecked everytime it asked if I had it - the problem didn't
reoccur and I saw it successfully load the X server.

I'd like to hear some suggestions about the MBR/cylinder issue and the eprom
issue before I try another install. If it's a combination of the two then I
might be trying a lot of different installs with no luck. When I can proceed
with at least a good guess at what to do for both items hen that should
hopefully narrow the number of installs down to just a few.

Thanks for the replies, I'm really impressed!
